The Toronto 50k+ – 16th June, 2016

The Toronto 50k+ was supported by Lush Cosmetics, Salba Chia, Fresh Restaurants and Genuine Health In the autumn of 2015 I saw a film of the Barkley Marathon, and loved it. The idea that there were still some people around who wanted to organise a very difficult race that didn’t try to pander to modern ways of experiencing a running event really inspired me. The Barkley race began in 1995 and since then only 14 runners have completed the course, which is a 32 km unmarked loop that runners have to…

The Spartan Super, Toronto – 3rd July 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, to give you a firm idea of the event, here’s a short video we shot as we took part. The Trek and Run team was supposed to take part in the Spartan Sprint on Saturday 2nd July and the Spartan Super the following day, but due to some transportation issues (our 4th team member, and our driver on the Saturday, got told that if he dared go out to one more race he’d…

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen This race, new on the Canada Running Series roster for 2016, is more or less flat and takes in some of the cities finest sites, including the CN Tower, the wide boulevard of University, the ornate Exhibition Grounds front gate and the lakefront. Here’s what our team thought of the event. 1/ Tell us about the pre race experience. Tim – The race pack pickup was a bit of a mixed bag (so to…

The Mississauga Marathon – 1st May 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This marathon is a Boston Qualifier and takes place just to the south-west of Toronto, starting inland and finishing at the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a couple of screenshots of my Tom Tom watch data that show the route of the event and also the elevation; as you can see, there’s a little bit of up and down but as long as you attack the downhills…

Waterloo Half Marathon – 24th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This year’s Waterloo Marathon provided no shortage of inspirational storylines. From running legend Ed Whitlock gunning for the world record for the 85 and up age group in the half marathon (spoiler alert, he crushed the record), to Rhonda-Marie Avery, the first blind runner to run in the infamous Barkley Marathons 100 mile race in the hills of Tennessee, both running in Sundays half…

The Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10k – 24th April 2016

This 10k race takes place in Oakville, about a 20 minute drive west of Toronto, and is a fundraiser for The Lighthouse, a registered charity providing peer support for grieving children, youth and their families in the Halton and Peel area. It’s known as a fast and flat route alongside the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a few thoughts about the event from…

The CRS Race Roster Spring Run-Off – 9th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. The Canada Running Series Race Roster Spring Run off is a long standing event that takes in Toronto’s beautiful High Park. There are 5km and 8km events and whilst it’s not a flat course, as the reading from one of our watches below shows, it is fast as long as you take the downhills at full tilt to make up for the…

The Achilles 5km, Toronto, March 13th 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running Steam Whistle Brewery & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. The Achilles St Patricks Day 5k is one of the best, most eagerly anticipated running events in Toronto. A mainly flat course, starting underneath the iconic CN Tower and leading into the heart of the city, it’s a perfect opportunity to set a personal best time, as all of our team did this time around. It’s also run to…
