Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon – 2nd May 2016

Salba Chia  Scimitar Sports & Helly Hansen Part 1 - By Dave Sherman  Celebrating its 50th birthday next year and referred to by many as ‘Britain’s newest town’ but by others as ‘the concrete jungle’, Milton Keynes (or MK, as the town is commonly referred to) was born out of a government effort to relieve London’s housing congestion, planned to be equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge, and formed from an area which was predominantly farmland and undeveloped villages into the grid of dual carriageways and roundabouts we know today. However if you look beyond the concrete, you’re left with a huge network of paths for cyclists, runners and walkers known as…

The Mississauga Marathon – 1st May 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This marathon is a Boston Qualifier and takes place just to the south-west of Toronto, starting inland and finishing at the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a couple of screenshots of my Tom Tom watch data that show the route of the event and also the elevation; as you can see, there’s a little bit of up and down but as long as you attack the downhills…

Maratona di Roma (Rome Marathon) – 10th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Photos by Laura Kimberley and Studio5 Part 1: By Dave Sherman Before we get started with our reviews, here’s a video I filmed of the event to give you an idea of the course and atmosphere… A journalist in Runners World recently described Rome as a ‘second tier’ Marathon which I found incredibly strange… Sure, Rome doesn’t have as big a field as London (around 12,000 last year compared to 38,000 in London and almost 50,000 in New…

Toughman Adventure Race, and the 7 in 7 Isle of Man Challenge

Toughmann seemed liked an event worth experiencing. A 10km distance with 1,000 ft of ascent and 25 obstacles to overcome sounded intriguing, and there was a light-hearted, non-macho feel to the race website which made me think the aim of the game was to provide a testing challenge rather than a chance of permanent injury. Add to this the location – the Isle of Man, a place I’ve visited before and know to be beautiful, friendly and well worth seeing more of – and it’s no surprise that I was…

The Hamilton Marathon; Road2Hope – Oct 2015

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Columbia Sportswear & Helly Hansen Words by Tim Sweeney, Trevor Murphy and Dave Wise First up, here’s a short video we shot during the event, to give you an idea of the course and atmosphere. Trevor - Well, I had no intention of ever running a marathon and certainly no intention of doing 3 in 3 consecutive weeks, but, life’s funny that way isn’t it? Crossing the finish line marked the 1 year anniversary of finally quitting smoking cigarettes for…

Paris Marathon 2015

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Push Nutrition and Tom Tom Photos by Dave Sherman, Laura Kimberley and Maindru Bonjour Paris! As with many British participants heading to France for the Paris marathon our long weekend began at St. Pancreas station in London as we awaited the Eurostar to take us straight to the centre of Paris. Although I’d travelled to France a few times via ferry I’d never travelled to Paris and never used the Eurostar, and compared the fuss and stress involved with…

The Goodlife Toronto Marathon, May 2015

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Gore Running Wear Push Nutrition On Running The Steam Whistle Brewery Helly Hansen and Garmin Actions Cameras First of all, here’s a film that I made whilst running the event to give you an idea of the course and the atmosphere. I came into this event tired; I’d been running a marathon everyday for the previous 13 days, ever since I’d injured myself at the Yonge St 10km race and had decided that if I couldn’t go fast anymore, I…

The Brighton Marathon, 2015

The Brighton Marathon is now one of the top marathons in the UK to run. It attracts elite runners who race round in 2 hours 10 minutes, top club runners from across the UK & Europe and then there is the rest of us who run to pursue a dream or just to push ourselves to the goal of finishing a marathon. Like all big races Brighton has an Expo, where you have to go to collect your race number and kit bag. I find this a bit of a…

The Athens Marathon; The Authentic, #2

Words by Laura Kimberley, photos by Lamia Hossain When we were offered the opportunity to attend the Athens Marathon, in true history geek mode I was completely ecstatic. This was the marathon. It was where Pheidippides, a messenger from the Greek army, ran from Marathon to Athens to give news of the Greek victory against the Persian invaders. I was so excited to be able to visit this city which had sparked much of my love for History and Mythology as a child and although I wouldn’t actually be running…
