The Anatomy of a Running Tattoo

The idea started in April with a carpet, the carpet that we’d been sleeping on all week during the Marathon des Sables. Gareth, one of the 5 other runners I’d been sharing the basic shelter with… …looked at the design on the edge of it and said, ‘I think I might use that in some way to add to my tattoo sleeve…’ I recognised the ‘X’ symbol as that of the Berber free man. The Berber’s are a tribe that inhabit many North African countries and it was men from that…

The hotel, the restaurants, the museums and the sights (especially the sights you might want to see if…

Dave (took part in the Full Marathon) – Hopefully the film above and my team-mates reports below will give you a firm idea of what you can expect if you enter this event. I’ll just add a few thoughts to pad…

The Greater Manchester Marathon – April 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia & Helly Hansen Photos by: AWOL Adventures Part 1: By Dave Sherman In April 2013 I took part in the Greater Manchester Marathon, and I had a brilliant time! It was my first time visiting Manchester, and the crowd support throughout the route was immense creating a buzz which lasted the entire 26.2 miles – so much so I set a Marathon personal best of 3:47 – a huge drop from my previous time of 3:56! Our experience of the 2013 event can be…

First, to give you a firm idea of the event, here’s a short video Dave shot as he took part. The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) is Toronto’s premiere marathon event. Here’s what our team thought of the event. Tim - The STWM is probably the event with the best pre race expo in Ontario. It’s definitely not one of those expos that you can…

On Improving Running Performance

I’ve done pretty good in my running this year. The first 6 events I took part in, in wildly varying weather and underfoot conditions, resulted in me beating my personal bests over 4 distances and gaining my first ever 1st place at a 10km race whilst the last event, a 50 mile mountain trail event that was meant to be just a bit of fun, delivered an age group podium finish. This short article tries to explain the reasons for this relative success. Here are a few finish line selfies to…

Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon – 2nd May 2016

Salba Chia  Scimitar Sports & Helly Hansen Part 1 - By Dave Sherman  Celebrating its 50th birthday next year and referred to by many as ‘Britain’s newest town’ but by others as ‘the concrete jungle’, Milton Keynes (or MK, as the town is commonly referred to) was born out of a government effort to relieve London’s housing congestion, planned to be equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge, and formed from an area which was predominantly farmland and undeveloped villages into the grid of dual carriageways and roundabouts we know today. However if you look beyond the concrete, you’re left with a huge network of paths for cyclists, runners and walkers known as…

The Mississauga Marathon – 1st May 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This marathon is a Boston Qualifier and takes place just to the south-west of Toronto, starting inland and finishing at the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a couple of screenshots of my Tom Tom watch data that show the route of the event and also the elevation; as you can see, there’s a little bit of up and down but as long as you attack the downhills…

Maratona di Roma (Rome Marathon) – 10th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Photos by Laura Kimberley and Studio5 Part 1: By Dave Sherman Before we get started with our reviews, here’s a video I filmed of the event to give you an idea of the course and atmosphere… A journalist in Runners World recently described Rome as a ‘second tier’ Marathon which I found incredibly strange… Sure, Rome doesn’t have as big a field as London (around 12,000 last year compared to 38,000 in London and almost 50,000 in New…
