The campground was an impressive site, like one of those epic 1950’s film’s famous for their armies of extras. My tentmates Jason, Gareth, Jeanne and Simon were…

Color Me Rad Toronto – May 2017

Pamela – Despite weather warnings of rain, the Color Me Rad event turned out to be a fun, sunny affair; which was perfectly fitting for its colourful nature. It was mother’s day weekend and I was happy to be attending this with two of my children. I loved the activity, participation and fitness focus of this event, it really encourages younger people to start running. Many events have a performance focus, and that has a place too, but I’m glad that we were all encouraged to just get out there and have…

The Mighty Mudcat Challenge – May 2017

Virgil – Small town races have a completely different vibe. While the excitement of 20, 000 runners all barrelling down an avenue has its own excitement, the smaller race format and more community oriented feel at Dunnville made it a memorable race weekend. As it was the first time Dunnville was hosting a marathon it felt like they needed to punch well above their weight to impress this city slicker. The Race Expo was a simple affair, with various vendors available and kit pickup at the end of the arena….

Around The Bay – 27th March 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running & Helly Hansen Jeff - Around The Bay is a special event which combines an interesting distance at an interesting time of year. But some may say that signing up for a 30k in the middle of March is just plain smart as far as marathon training goes and it may be the reason that this race has attracted hoards of runners to the streets of Hamilton every year since 1894. While many of us ponder all winter about…

The Achilles St Patricks Day 5km – 12th March 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen Adam - Sunday morning began nice and easy with a later race start than usual for me. Traffic into Toronto from Hamilton flowed smoothly. Although I worried the Spadina exit might be backed up, as Spadina is part of the race route, there was no issue and parking on Front St only cost $12. I parked across from the Rogers Centre. This put me within 5 minutes of the start/finish line. My Trek and Run…

Challenge Billund-Herning (Demark) Middle Distance Triathlon – 12th Jun 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Helly Hansen Oakley & Secret Training Part 1: By Dave Sherman The Challenge Denmark Middle Distance Triathlon took place on 12th June 2016 involving a 1.2 mile swim in Furslang Lake in Herning, followed by a 56 mile cycle from Herning to Billund, and finally a 13.1 mile (Half Marathon) run around the Lalandia resort and downtown Billund. This event was to be my third Middle Distance triathlon event but my first Challenge event and my first visit to Denmark,…

The North Face Endurance Challenge – Ontario, Canada – 16th July 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen All photographs, unless otherwise stated, by Ken Schuh and Kent Keeler of Ultra Race Photos First, to give you a firm idea of the event, here’s a short video Dave and Virgil shot as they took part. Three of our team took on the 50 mile race at this event, and one of us ran the 50km. Here’s what we thought of the day. Tim (Tim ran the 50 miler) - For an out of…

The Toronto 50k+ – 16th June, 2016

The Toronto 50k+ was supported by Lush Cosmetics, Salba Chia, Fresh Restaurants and Genuine Health In the autumn of 2015 I saw a film of the Barkley Marathon, and loved it. The idea that there were still some people around who wanted to organise a very difficult race that didn’t try to pander to modern ways of experiencing a running event really inspired me. The Barkley race began in 1995 and since then only 14 runners have completed the course, which is a 32 km unmarked loop that runners have to…

On Improving Running Performance

I’ve done pretty good in my running this year. The first 6 events I took part in, in wildly varying weather and underfoot conditions, resulted in me beating my personal bests over 4 distances and gaining my first ever 1st place at a 10km race whilst the last event, a 50 mile mountain trail event that was meant to be just a bit of fun, delivered an age group podium finish. This short article tries to explain the reasons for this relative success. Here are a few finish line selfies to…
