Tobermory Trail Race Weekend – September 23, 2017

by Michael Brunelle The 2nd annual Tobermory Trail Race Weekend took place in late September at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in the iconic harbour village of Tobermory, Ontario.  Known for the Fathom Five National Marine Park, home to Flowerpot Island with its interesting rock formations, 19th century lighthouses, shipwreck dive sites, and the famous Chi Cheemaun Ferry,  there is plenty to see and do in this popular destination.   The event had many options including a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, and a 5k race Sunday on…

The Mighty Mudcat Challenge – May 2017

Virgil – Small town races have a completely different vibe. While the excitement of 20, 000 runners all barrelling down an avenue has its own excitement, the smaller race format and more community oriented feel at Dunnville made it a memorable race weekend. As it was the first time Dunnville was hosting a marathon it felt like they needed to punch well above their weight to impress this city slicker. The Race Expo was a simple affair, with various vendors available and kit pickup at the end of the arena….

I’ll just add a few thoughts to pad…

It was my first time visiting Manchester, and the crowd support throughout the route was immense creating a buzz which lasted the entire 26.2 miles – so much so I set a Marathon personal best of 3:47 – a huge drop from my previous time of 3:56! Our experience of the 2013 event can be…

On Improving Running Performance

I’ve done pretty good in my running this year. The first 6 events I took part in, in wildly varying weather and underfoot conditions, resulted in me beating my personal bests over 4 distances and gaining my first ever 1st place at a 10km race whilst the last event, a 50 mile mountain trail event that was meant to be just a bit of fun, delivered an age group podium finish. This short article tries to explain the reasons for this relative success. Here are a few finish line selfies to…

Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon – 2nd May 2016

Salba Chia  Scimitar Sports & Helly Hansen Part 1 - By Dave Sherman  Celebrating its 50th birthday next year and referred to by many as ‘Britain’s newest town’ but by others as ‘the concrete jungle’, Milton Keynes (or MK, as the town is commonly referred to) was born out of a government effort to relieve London’s housing congestion, planned to be equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge, and formed from an area which was predominantly farmland and undeveloped villages into the grid of dual carriageways and roundabouts we know today. However if you look beyond the concrete, you’re left with a huge network of paths for cyclists, runners and walkers known as…
