The Mighty Mudcat Challenge – May 2017

Virgil – Small town races have a completely different vibe. While the excitement of 20, 000 runners all barrelling down an avenue has its own excitement, the smaller race format and more community oriented feel at Dunnville made it a memorable race weekend. As it was the first time Dunnville was hosting a marathon it felt like they needed to punch well above their weight to impress this city slicker. The Race Expo was a simple affair, with various vendors available and kit pickup at the end of the arena….

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen The course didn’t change too much since when we did it in 2016 so here’s the film we shot then, to give you an idea of what’s in store for you. Dave (took part in the Full Marathon) – Hopefully the film above and my team-mates reports below will give you a firm idea of what you can expect if you enter this event. I’ll just add a few thoughts to pad…

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen All photographs, unless otherwise stated, by David Wise and Virgil Cheung. First, to give you a firm idea of the event, here’s a short video Dave shot as he took part. The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) is Toronto’s premiere marathon event. Here’s what our team thought of the event. Tim - The STWM is probably the event with the best pre race expo in Ontario. It’s definitely not one of those expos that you can…

Three of our team took on this event (2 of them got personal best times, it’s a very fast course!); here’s what we thought of the day. Tim – I have to admit I found the shuttle bus schedule from Bronte Station to the event village to…

The Mississauga Marathon – 1st May 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This marathon is a Boston Qualifier and takes place just to the south-west of Toronto, starting inland and finishing at the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a couple of screenshots of my Tom Tom watch data that show the route of the event and also the elevation; as you can see, there’s a little bit of up and down but as long as you attack the downhills…

Waterloo Half Marathon – 24th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This year’s Waterloo Marathon provided no shortage of inspirational storylines. From running legend Ed Whitlock gunning for the world record for the 85 and up age group in the half marathon (spoiler alert, he crushed the record), to Rhonda-Marie Avery, the first blind runner to run in the infamous Barkley Marathons 100 mile race in the hills of Tennessee, both running in Sundays half…

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Photos by Laura Kimberley and Studio5 Part 1: By Dave Sherman Before we get started with our reviews, here’s a video I filmed of the event to give you an idea of the course and atmosphere… A journalist in Runners World recently described Rome as a ‘second tier’ Marathon which I found incredibly strange… Sure, Rome doesn’t have as big a field as London (around 12,000 last year compared to 38,000 in London and almost 50,000 in New…

Toughman Adventure Race, and the 7 in 7 Isle of Man Challenge

Toughmann seemed liked an event worth experiencing. A 10km distance with 1,000 ft of ascent and 25 obstacles to overcome sounded intriguing, and there was a light-hearted, non-macho feel to the race website which made me think the aim of the game was to provide a testing challenge rather than a chance of permanent injury. Add to this the location – the Isle of Man, a place I’ve visited before and know to be beautiful, friendly and well worth seeing more of – and it’s no surprise that I was…
