Around The Bay – 27th March 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen Jeff - Around The Bay is a special event which combines an interesting distance at an interesting time of year.  But some may say that signing up for a 30k in the middle of March is just plain smart as far as marathon training goes and it may be the reason that this race has attracted hoards of runners to the streets of Hamilton every year since 1894. While many of us ponder all winter about whether…

The Burlington Chilly Half Marathon – 5th March 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen The Burlington Chilly Half Marathon is one of those very flat lakeside courses that southern Ontario does so well; if the wind isn’t blowing too bad this is PB territory (it was for two – and so nearly three! - of our team) for sure, and it’s a pretty route to boot. Four of our team took on the challenge, here’s what they thought. Pamela - This turned out to be a significant race for me, which I hadn’t…

The Nutrience Oakville Half Marathon – 25th Sept 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen All photographs, unless otherwise stated, by David Wise First, to give you a firm idea of the event, here’s a short video Dave shot as he took part. Three of our team took on this event (2 of them got personal best times, it’s a very fast course!); here’s what we thought of the day. Tim – I have to admit I found the shuttle bus schedule from Bronte Station to the event village to…

Purple Patch’s Maidenhead Half Marathon – 4th Sept 2016

By Laura Kimberley Photos by Dave Sherman Gathered at the start line waiting to go I was hit by a supreme moment of sheer panic. I felt sick and had a horrendous case of the nervous giggles. I’d known this event was coming up and although I’d trained for it more than I’d trained for any of the previous 4 half marathons I’d done, for some reason I really felt the pressure of this one. Over the past few months I’ve been attempting to find a real love of running…

On Improving Running Performance

I’ve done pretty good in my running this year. The first 6 events I took part in, in wildly varying weather and underfoot conditions, resulted in me beating my personal bests over 4 distances and gaining my first ever 1st place at a 10km race whilst the last event, a 50 mile mountain trail event that was meant to be just a bit of fun, delivered an age group podium finish. This short article tries to explain the reasons for this relative success. Here are a few finish line selfies to…

Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon – 2nd May 2016

Salba Chia  Scimitar Sports & Helly Hansen Part 1 - By Dave Sherman  Celebrating its 50th birthday next year and referred to by many as ‘Britain’s newest town’ but by others as ‘the concrete jungle’, Milton Keynes (or MK, as the town is commonly referred to) was born out of a government effort to relieve London’s housing congestion, planned to be equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge, and formed from an area which was predominantly farmland and undeveloped villages into the grid of dual carriageways and roundabouts we know today. However if you look beyond the concrete, you’re left with a huge network of paths for cyclists, runners and walkers known as…

Waterloo Half Marathon – 24th April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Brooks Running & Helly Hansen First, here’s a short film showing the route from a runners perspective. This year’s Waterloo Marathon provided no shortage of inspirational storylines. From running legend Ed Whitlock gunning for the world record for the 85 and up age group in the half marathon (spoiler alert, he crushed the record), to Rhonda-Marie Avery, the first blind runner to run in the infamous Barkley Marathons 100 mile race in the hills of Tennessee, both running in Sundays half…

Vitality Reading Half Marathon – 3rd April 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Photos by Vijay Algoo, Steve Kimberley and Marathon Foto Part 1 by Dave Sherman The Reading Half Marathon and I have history – and it’s not good… Back in 2012 Reading had been my second ever half marathon and I’d gotten so carried away with the atmosphere on race day (including accepting a beer from the unofficial 11km pub drink station) that I’d spectacularly blown up late in the race resulting in a finish time of…

Vitality Brighton Half Marathon – 28th Feb 2016

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Part 1: By Steve Kimberley It was that time of the year again. As the winter months were coming to an end, half-marathon season was starting up again and for a third time I would be running the Vitality Brighton half marathon. Since the first time that I ran it, Brighton has been my favourite half marathon course for a number of reasons. First of all, the course is just an ideal layout of gradients and…

Grand Union Canal Half Marathon – 8th Nov 2015

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  Saucony Columbia Sportswear & Helly Hansen The Grand Union Canal Half Marathon took place on Sunday 8th November 2015 and starting at Cowley Recreation Ground in Uxbridge, running along the Grand Union Canal to its finish in Cassiobury Park in Watford. It is billed as a lovely flat, scenic, unusual, multi-terrain course which is traffic-free and was placed 5th in Runner’s World Races of the year in 2012 for the ‘Scenery’ category – but did it live up to…
