Toronto Waterfront 10k

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen Virgil – The fact that Lululemon was sponsoring this race as well as the race shirts suggested that the event was going to be popular with women. In fact, I read post-race that 68% of the field was female, and that was readily apparent as soon as I got to the corrals. That’s good to see, it felt ‘right’ to have a more even mix between the sexes and it also, to be honest, brought a…

The Mighty Mudcat Challenge – May 2017

Virgil – Small town races have a completely different vibe. While the excitement of 20, 000 runners all barrelling down an avenue has its own excitement, the smaller race format and more community oriented feel at Dunnville made it a memorable race weekend. As it was the first time Dunnville was hosting a marathon it felt like they needed to punch well above their weight to impress this city slicker. The Race Expo was a simple affair, with various vendors available and kit pickup at the end of the arena….

It was a stunning day, just right, sunny, not much…

On Improving Running Performance

I’ve done pretty good in my running this year. The first 6 events I took part in, in wildly varying weather and underfoot conditions, resulted in me beating my personal bests over 4 distances and gaining my first ever 1st place at a 10km race whilst the last event, a 50 mile mountain trail event that was meant to be just a bit of fun, delivered an age group podium finish. This short article tries to explain the reasons for this relative success. Here are a few finish line selfies to…

Here’s what our team thought of the event. 1/ Tell us about the pre race experience. Tim – The race pack pickup was a bit of a mixed bag (so to…

The Purple Patch Stockley Park 10K – 15th May 2016

By Laura Kimberley and Katrina Urban  The Purple Patch running website boasted ‘A hidden jewel, nestled amidst the M4, M40 & M25, yet a million miles away from the concrete jungle – a real metropolitan oasis.’ I was really excited about this run because nothing makes me happier than exploring new places and this location had really been talked up by the Purple Patch team. I was very nearly down a running buddy because my planned companion Nicola had to work, but thankfully my friend Kat offered to run in her place. I was looking forward to this as…

The Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10k – 24th April 2016

This 10k race takes place in Oakville, about a 20 minute drive west of Toronto, and is a fundraiser for The Lighthouse, a registered charity providing peer support for grieving children, youth and their families in the Halton and Peel area. It’s known as a fast and flat route alongside the shores of Lake Ontario. Here’s a few thoughts about the event from…

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia  & Helly Hansen Part 1: By Laura Kimberley On Sunday 20th March the Heyford Park races took place at an RAF airbase in Cherwell Valley. The event offered a 5k, 10k or half marathon option as well 600m and 1k junior races. My friend Nicola and I had opted for the 10k as part of our ongoing training plan we’re undertaking in line with a number of Purple Patch’s upcoming events. We arrived at the airbase about an hour before race…
