The Sri Chinmoy 24 Hour Self-Transcendence Race, Ottawa – July 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen Dave and Virgil from the Trek and Run Team took on the challenge of this 24 Hour Event. Here’s what they thought of the day. First up is Dave’s film, which will give you some idea of the experience. All photos kindly supplied by Prabhakar Street - http://www.pjtstreet.com/ Dave – The focus of this event was self transcendence, that is, to try to do better than you have done before. For me that…

The North Face Endurance Challenge, Ontario – 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen All the blurry photos of us (and the landscapes) were taken by us, all the really good photos of us in action were taken by Ken Schuh of  Ultra Race Photos  Four of the Trek and Run team took part, Trevor ran the 50k course and Brian, Virgil and Dave took on the 50 mile. Here’s what they thought of the day out. First of all, Dave’s film from last year’s 50…

The Anatomy of a Running Tattoo

The idea started in April with a carpet, the carpet that we’d been sleeping on all week during the Marathon des Sables. Gareth, one of the 5 other runners I’d been sharing the basic shelter with… …looked at the design on the edge of it and said, ‘I think I might use that in some way to add to my tattoo sleeve…’ I recognised the ‘X’ symbol as that of the Berber free man. The Berber’s are a tribe that inhabit many North African countries and it was men from that…

Toronto Waterfront 10k

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen Virgil – The fact that Lululemon was sponsoring this race as well as the race shirts suggested that the event was going to be popular with women. In fact, I read post-race that 68% of the field was female, and that was readily apparent as soon as I got to the corrals. That’s good to see, it felt ‘right’ to have a more even mix between the sexes and it also, to be honest, brought a…

The film below that I made should give you a solid idea of what to expect from the MDS experience. There’s a great 10 minute long interview at the end with my 2 tentmates Jeanne and Gareth who between…

The Rome Marathon

Trek and Run were supported during the Rome Marathon by The Beehive, Rome – http://www.the-beehive.com/ Salba Chia – http://salbasmart.com/ Helly Hansen – https://www.hellyhansen.com Brooks Running – http://www.brooksrunning.com Tailwind Nutrition – https://www.tailwindnutrition.com/ Haglofs – http://www.haglofs.com/gb/en Bloc Eyewear – https://www.bloceyewear.com/ We decided that this marathon film wasn’t just going to be about the race, and instead focus just as much on the many great things you can expect to experience on a trip to Rome. The hotel, the restaurants, the museums and the sights (especially the sights you might want to see if…

Five Films

During the lead up to the Marathon des Sables, I travelled from Toronto to London, then to Rome, and Paris before flying to Morocco. There were 3 races in as many weeks and a great many fascinating friends. I took a little video footage of experiences that interested me as I went. I thought of making it into one long film but having done that and seen it come out at nearly three and a half hours, I knew if I wanted anybody to watch it I had to somehow…

Color Me Rad Toronto – May 2017

Pamela – Despite weather warnings of rain, the Color Me Rad event turned out to be a fun, sunny affair; which was perfectly fitting for its colourful nature. It was mother’s day weekend and I was happy to be attending this with two of my children. I loved the activity, participation and fitness focus of this event, it really encourages younger people to start running. Many events have a performance focus, and that has a place too, but I’m glad that we were all encouraged to just get out there and have…

The Mighty Mudcat Challenge – May 2017

Virgil – Small town races have a completely different vibe. While the excitement of 20, 000 runners all barrelling down an avenue has its own excitement, the smaller race format and more community oriented feel at Dunnville made it a memorable race weekend. As it was the first time Dunnville was hosting a marathon it felt like they needed to punch well above their weight to impress this city slicker. The Race Expo was a simple affair, with various vendors available and kit pickup at the end of the arena….

The Mississauga Marathon – May 2017

Trek and Run were supported during this event by; Salba Chia Brooks Running Tailwind Nutrition & Helly Hansen The course didn’t change too much since when we did it in 2016 so here’s the film we shot then, to give you an idea of what’s in store for you. Dave (took part in the Full Marathon) – Hopefully the film above and my team-mates reports below will give you a firm idea of what you can expect if you enter this event. I’ll just add a few thoughts to pad…
