First of all I can say that this event is one of the best and organized 10km race in India. This was the 4th edition of the (TCS) World 10K in Bangalore on 5th of June Sunday. In last few years, the title sponsor was Sunfeast World 10k and this time it has been change to TCS World 10k. My goal was to finish the race with the Big Smile. I am satisfied, I did it.
The Kenyan guy took the first price and finished the race in 28:01 and I finished in a bit more than double that time. The Kenyans are great athletes and were favourites to be champions in this run. First prize was only 21 thousand dollars I agree my time was not very good and I disappointed myself in this respect.
The route for this year seems to be the same as that of last year. This was the first time the race was held in June instead in the month of May.
I woke up at 5 am and reached Kanteerava Stadium at 6h30am with my friend. The World 10k started at 7am, which was only for professional runners who can easily finish the race in less than 35 minutes. The second category was Open 10k. There were around 22 thousand participants in various categories. Open 10k category race started at 8 am. It was crowded from the holding area to the starting line. I was bit far from starting line and started the race a few minutes late. The weather was pleasant, after a few snap showers at the start, by the end of the race it was getting warm. There were lots of crowds lining the route and the atmosphere was electrifying and exciting.
After finishing the race, I felt very happy as I am back on track, as this was my first running event in this year 2011. I was not running in the last five months (Jan to May 2011) due to some other priorities in life.
I also clicked some pictures with my RFL Bangalore group friends. It was so nice to meet all of them. I was missing my friend Jean Marc’s company, we ran together in previous occasions 2008, 2009 and 2010. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. http://www.tcsworld10k.procamrunning.in/
